Deconstruction (Decon) is a FREE service provided by Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity’s fully insured team. We carefully remove kitchen cabinets, counter-tops, appliances and more, prior to a remodel, renovation, or demolition. Your items are then sold in the ReStore to help fund building or repairing a home for a family in need of an affordable, safe, decent place to live. Decon also helps prevent thousands of pounds of removed cabinets, countertops and more from ending up in a landfill!

How does decon work?
Schedule a site visit
Call our Deconstruction Hotline: (910)-686-9800
or email Decon@CapeFearHabitat.org and provide information on the items you want uninstalled and removed. We will then arrange an appointment for a consultation.
Walk through consultation
The decon team will conduct a site visit and determine if the items qualify and is realistic for our team.
Deconstruction is performed
The fully insured team will perform the deconstruction and load all the qualifying items onto the Habitat vehicles to take to the Restores.
Receive your tax receipt
Prior to the Deconstruction team’s departure, you will receive the donation tax receipt for your charitable contribution.

What is Deconstruction?
The Deconstruction team gently removes cabinets, countertops, appliances and building materials prior to your renovation or demolition project. Our team will come in and uninstall and remove usable materials for donation to the ReStores, leaving a blank canvas for your project.
How Much Does a Deconstruction Cost?
A Deconstruction is a free service offered by Cape Fear Habitat ReStore. All items removed during the Decon are donated to the Habitat ReStores. While this is a free service, donations are welcome to help offset the costs to Cape Fear Habitat.
What Items or Rooms are Suitable for a Decon?
Items must in decent, usable condition to qualify for a deconstruction. We primarily work with kitchen remodels or whole house deconstructions, but are happy to conduct an evaluation for your project. Qualifying items include cabinets, appliances, countertops, vanities, sinks, lighting fixtures, doors, and more. If time and space allow, we may also be able to accept furniture during the decon project.
Where Do my Donated Items Go?
All donated items are taken to the Habitat ReStores, where they are resold at discounted rates. This helps to reduce the cost of home repair and maintenance for the local community and giving your items a second life.
What are the Benefits of a Deconstruction?
Deconstruction is a free service offered to home- and business-owners to offset the cost of your next project. Instead of paying a third party to strip these items before your project begins, our team will uninstall the items, remove them from the property, and take them to the Habitat ReStores as a donation. Not only is this a free service that saves you the cost of typical removal, but the donation items are also tax deductible.
This service also diverts usable items from the landfill, giving a second life to your items while providing affordable access to home repair materials to the community.
And of course, we can’t forget that all sales from the donation items directly support Cape Fear Habitat’s mission to build homes, community and hope!
How Do I Get Started?
The first thing you need to do is reach out to us to schedule your consultation with our Deconstruction Coordinator. We will conduct a site visit to determine if we are able to provide a Decon for your project.
After the initial consultation, we will schedule a day for our team to come out and complete the Decon.
